On the heels of another successful Love Show (our community art show), we are honored to be among several Princeton establishments featured in US1’s article about local exhibition opportunities for artists.

As Small World’s co-owner, Jessica, said to US1’s Dan Aubrey, “We have been exhibiting art once a month since the day we opened our doors in 1993.  From our inception, having a monthly rotating art show with primarily local artists was a part of our mission. Between our two cafes, we now have 24 art shows a year.

…One of my favorites is that it allows our space to reinvent itself once a month. Most cafes have regular customers who come in multiple times a week. In this process of regular visitation we get used to the environment. But on the first Wednesday of every month after the new art show has been hung, I notice myself, my employees, and our customers look up a little more and take in the new art.”

Thank you to the US1 staff for the great coverage! Read the full article here.

Sō PERCUSSION to Perform at Small World Coffee

By Jacqui | Monday, July 16th, 2012 at 8:49 am

We are excited to announce that So Percussion will be returning for another live performance at Small World Coffee this Friday, July 20th!  Join us at Witherspoon at 8:30 pm.  This widely acclaimed group has performed at venues such as Lincoln Center Festival, Carnegie Hall, Brooklyn Academy of Music, and throughout the world.  In 2000, they founded a summer program based out of Princeton University to mentor young musicians.  The chamber music seminar features the members of So, and their performance at Small World will be the culmination of the summer session.

“Since 1999, So Percussion has been creating music that explores all the extremes of emotion and musical possibility.  Called an “experimental powerhouse” by the Village Voice, “astonishing and entrancing” by Billboard Magazine, and “brilliant” by the New York Times, the Brooklyn-based quartet’s innovative work with today’s most exciting composers and their own original music has quickly helped them forge a unique and diverse career.”

Friday’s show is FREE to all.  To learn more about So Percussion, visit their website.

Love Show 2012 Raising Funds for NOFA NJ

Love Show 2012 Poster

From its inception, the Love Show was designed to be more than just a group art exhibition.  The Love Show was meant to engage  anyone we could possibly reach – our worldlings, our patrons, local artists and fellow small businesses – in a lively group effort to nurture the community that has made us what we are.  To make the Love Show a true celebration of love, each year we select a local non-profit to raise funds for.  Past recipients have included The Arts Council of Princeton and The D&R Greenway.  This year, we are proud to be raising funds for the Northeast Organic Farming Association of New Jersey (NOFA NJ).
